About 20 km from my hometown lies the national warmuseum. This weekend they hosted a special event called Santa Fé. It is a combination of re-enactment and keeping all rolling material dated from the second world war in a good shape.

The weather was bad so I found adults dressed up as soldiers living in tents in the middle of the woods and mud. To give it an old feel I made a sepiaseries that can be found on my facebooksite. I've kept this one simply black and white.

Today was the first day to work with my new DSLR. So many changes in the menustructure and the quick adjusting made that I had the feeling not beeing in control at all. So the outcome of the shots was more by accident. I have a lot to learn the coming days. I visited the open air museum in Grefrath NRW Germany today. The second year that I saw the midieval market. This owl was part of the birdshow. Shot with my Nikkor 70/300 lens I’m quite sattisfied with brightness and the sharpness of my new cam.

Four years ago I visited Essen in the German Ruhrarea NRW. I visited the old coalmine "Zeche Zollverein" In those days I usesd a semi dslr from Fuji not able to shoot in RAWmode. When I laid my hand on the NIK software silver EFEX 2.0 pro i descided to overlook the old pics and maybe re-edit some stuff. This is one of the results showing the cokesovens and the coolingarea. I must admitt I had some online help re-editing it.

I took this picture one and a half year ago while I was stroling through Nijmegen and waiting for my daughter to finish het school. I still was using the old Adobe Lightroom version and still wasn't using Nik software. Today brwosing through my archive I took a second look and descided to spend some time re-editing this picture. It was december and at 8.30 in the morning you get this strange kind a light, still a bit dark, storelights burning. A town waking up to a brand new day.

Every photographer likes symmetry and looks for compositions that are symmetrical. A year ago I visited Steijl in Limburg for the yearly oldtimerfestival. One of the participants was this early thirties Chrysler. Which for me is symmetry in complete balance, the shiny paint, the chrome and the reflections make it a perfect pic.

Five days ago I posted a pic of a bug in decay. Today I had an appointment with the owner to shoot the beetle in the back of his repairshop. This Bycicle builder owned the 1970 beetle for over 19 years. For all the VW experts it’s a 6 volt version, with original 1970 registration plates.  His shop is in the Q4 neighborhood, is small area with lots of small creative stores and artisits. He told me never to part from this icon on wheels, and he will put it on the road soon again.

Monday is the day in the week that all the shops Venlo put their trash on the side of the road. Walking back from the station today, I found that one pub put a box with empty winebottles outsite for the trashtruck to pick up. A box with empty winebottles might be a sad look for an alcoholic, for a photographer it's a feast of lightreflection on a sunny day.

In March this year I visited Antwerp, city on the banks of the river Scheldt and worldharbour. I easely call it my second home and love the atmosphere of the narrow streets in the old city, the nightlife, and the many wonderfull restaurants. One of the buildings I visit regular is the MAS. The 60 metre high MAS was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects. The façade is made of Indian red sandstone and curved glass panel construction. The MAS houses 470,000 objects, most of which are kept in storage. The first visitor's gallery is the "visible store", which contains 180,000 items.[1] The building is located on the spot where the Hanzehuis used to stand. International merchants worked and resided at the Hanzehuis. In the nineteenth century a fire destroyed the building. Sometimes I find titles in lyrics and of course this one comes from Bob Dylans all along the watchtower.

Today I shot my most difficult shoot ever, for privacy reasons I will not mention the details. People from all over the Netherlands came to Steijl for my fotoshoot.

Late last night thunderstorms rolled over our province and I woke up this mornig looking at a grey sky and rain still pouring down. Half an hour before the shoot started sunbeams broke through and gave us heavenly light for our fotoshoot. This shot was taken after 2 hours of shooting and this young lad still was fresh and not bored or sleepy at all.

On this wonderfull summersday I spend my time in a very small village on the border of the county Limburg & Brabant. This little village where hardly 500 people live, breaths out the simple life of the past. People are all friendly and silence is overwelming. Little streams, thousands of birds and acient farms from over a 100 years old, all in wonderfull shape give you the idea that you travelled back in time. Green fields, little farmes and a deep blue sky make it an isle of tranquillity.

Beetle Decay

Title:     Beetle Decay

On my way back home from a customer, I spotted a beetle if full state of decay in the back of a bycicle repairshop in Venlo. I walked by spotted the car and turned arround to go back. I spoke to the owner and the first question was : what on earth is this car doing in the back of your bycicleshop and secondly how on earth did you get it in for there seemed not to be a door big enough. After seeing the car more closely I discovered that I shot the car last year while it was on the boulevard parkinglot. Local authorities complained so the owner knocked out the complete front of his store to get the car in. We agreed that I come back next week for a shoot. Looking foreward for I love decay !!

Today I had several appointments in Venlo citycentre, for I live near it, it's easy to do that walking and of course taking my lttle syscam with me. Yesterday the pic of the day was one of my first to be classified as streetphotography. This picture is my last for I shot it this afternoon. It shows the redesigned Venlo harbour, nowadays to be used for recreation for it has lost it's traffic function years ago. Three girls trying to get some color on their skins looked a bit odd, if they were spotting for birds in the sky.
